Dallas Architecture News
We’ve been busy this week getting ready to install our new Elsewhere, TX exhibition (more on that soon), but wanted to take a break to update you on some of the local architecture stories we’ve run across recently.
Hot on the heels of the groundbreaking for Museum Tower, the Arts District got more good news. Spire Realty Group has plans to develop the 12 acres they own just south of Ross Avenue. Here’s the scoop.
And up the street, Rees Architecture is working on a plan to “recycle” Elm Place. When built as the First National Bank tower, it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi, but now sits empty. Rees says their plans include wind generators and solar panels on the roof to generate energy.
Another icon of downtown Dallas—the Art Deco Lone Star Gas Company building—is also looking at redevelopment. Hamilton Properties has plans to turn the complex into housing, including affordable housing units. Unfair Park recently posted some photos of the inside of the building taken by Harwood Avenue District champion Noah Jeppson. They are a real treat. (I’ll take the corner office, thanks.)
